These interviews about European citizenship made me think about how the people living in the same Continent, see different important aspects about EUROPE.
A lot of people who live in Belfast answered that they don't feel the connection with the european culture, that for them this feeling is more part of the people who live in the mainland.
The sea creates some symbolic but also real distances between the Northern Irish people and the Continental Europeans..maybe someone can't swim very well:-)
The main reasons why the people think to be apart from what Europe represents it's because many big aspects like the currency, the politics and the lifestyle are quite different to their ideal thoughts.
European countries are seen from here like places where the people have a good political system, which considers the citizens when the decisions are taken, places where the people live like in holiday, walking under the sun and drinking in the cafes:-)
and that's nice ..
also if Spain, Italy, Germany, etc. are not really just this.
The opinions about how the people from these countries live in Europe touch other aspects about the responsability of change the things, to make Europe not only as a money-union but also living the possibility of a big democratic community.
The people from the southern countries speak about the difficulties and the effort that their governments has to do to respect the economic standards.
Some young people see in the travelling an opportunity to know other countries and to feel more European.
Evs- European Voluntary Service- seems to be a good program to live an experience of meeting new cultures of the same Continent.
